Sleep Disorders

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a chronic sleep problem where repeated episodes of upper airway obstruction lead to reduced airflow. This disruption or blockage to breathing during sleep leads to poor sleep and low blood oxygen levels. Common symptoms include snoring and daytime sleepiness. Treatments options include lifestyle changes (weight loss) to medical devices (CPAP) and sometimes surgery.

Insomnia

Insomnia is a sleep problem where there is difficulty falling asleep, maintaining sleep, or experiencing non-restorative sleep. Insomnia disorder is associated with poor daytime functioning and poorer quality of life. Causes of insomnia may include anxiety, depression, medical conditions, medications, or poor sleep habits. Treatment options may include behavioural therapies and sometimes medications to help regulate sleep patterns.
